Moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11: what should you do?
Before upgrading, check whether the computer meets Microsoft’s requirements and make sure important files are backed up. The right next step depends on the device.
Check before upgrading
- Use Microsoft’s current compatibility guidance for your device.
- Check processor, TPM, Secure Boot, memory and available storage.
- Back up important files before a major operating system change.
If the computer is compatible
- Plan the upgrade when you have time to check apps and devices afterwards.
- Keep the computer connected to power and follow Microsoft’s update instructions.
If the computer is not compatible
- Do not bypass compatibility checks without understanding the support and security implications.
- Consider whether a supported computer, repair or another suitable plan makes sense.
